About project

The G.A.T.E. HUHR project is implemented under the Interreg VI-A Hungary-Croatia Cross-border Cooperation Programme 2021-2027.

Project “Gifted and Talented Education for Outstanding and Competitive HUHR Society” is implemented with the aim of establishing a comprehensive support system for gifted students in primary schools within the cross-border area of Koprivnica-Križevci County and Zala County.

Through cooperation between Primary School Đurđevac (Croatia) and Zalaegerszegi Tankerületi Központ (Hungary), the project develops modern, inclusive and resilient educational approaches supporting the work and learning of gifted students, both in classroom and online environments.

The project duration is 18 months, from 20 February 2026 to 19 August 2027, and directly involves teachers, expert associates and gifted students of the 5th and 6th grades.

Project objectives

To develop bilingual cross border educational manual for gifted students in technical sciences, natural sciences, social sciences and sports.

To involve different target groups (teachers, students, parents and marginalised groups) to raise awareness on the importance of giftedness and inclusive education.

To develop a bilingual handbook and educational materials for work with gifted students and to introduce modern IT and specialised equipment in schools.

To strengthen the competences of teachers and expert associates for identification, support and guidance of giftedness through specialised trainings.

To organise a series of workshops, camps and conferences supporting the overall development of gifted students, as well as cross-border cooperation and intercultural exchange.

Planned project activities

  • 10 professional educations for teachers and expert associates (8 in each country + 2 joint online webinars) on approaches to work with gifted students
  • 10 workshops/trainings for gifted students (7 in each country + 2 joint online workshops)
  • 7 workshops for three target groups jointly – teachers, gifted students and their parents
  • 2 cross-border one-day camps for gifted students (one in Croatia, one in Hungary)
  • 2 cross-border conferences for gifted students (one in Croatia, one in Hungary), including opening and closing conferences
  • 2 cross-border study visits for exchange of best practice between Croatian and Hungarian schools
  • procurement of IT equipment (smart screen, laptops, tablets, camera, audio equipment) and specialised equipment for technical, natural sciences and sports fields

Expected project results include

  • 2 primary schools involved in structured programmes for gifted students and equipped with modern IT and specialised equipment
  • 24 teachers and 2 expert associates trained for improved work with gifted students
  • 64 gifted students of the 5th and 6th grades participating in workshops, camps and conferences and developing their potential in multiple fields
  • a handbook for work with gifted students developed and translated into Croatian, Hungarian and English, available after project completion
  • 2 cross-border camps, 2 conferences for gifted students and 2 educational events for marginalised groups implemented
  • a sustainable cross-border network of schools and teachers established, enabling continued exchange of experience and further development of support for gifted students after project completion
